Ted sat down at the computer. He was giddy with anticipation. Looking over his shoulder, he opened the file and clicked through several photos. Most of them were poor quality, an unfortunate side effect of shooting from such a long distance. Almost no faces were visible and the ones he could make out were not the people he was hoping to see. What was he going to do with blurry photos of people of no consequence engaged in perverted acts? What was he getting for his money?

Ted pounded the desk with his fist, angry that the investigator had dared to give him such flimsy evidence. There were a few shots of Kevin entering the building and of his car leaving several hours later. The problem was that the place was a beehive of activity. There were no rooms booked under Kevin’s name and about a dozen legitimate reasons for him to be there. The bastard was as slippery as an eel.

The last file, a video clip, was more promising. You could, at least, make out Kevin’s face as he fondled a very appreciative woman. It was kinky and very obviously consensual but not incriminating in any way. What was the headline there? “Football Player has Sex with Cheap Bimbo”?

Ted scoffed at the paltry offerings and hung his head. Perhaps Karen was right. Maybe he was obsessive and petty. If he spent any more money on this, he was going to drive them into the poorhouse. This was his last chance at getting even and it looked like he had failed again. It was always like that with guys like him.

Ted looked at his photo of his wife on their wedding day. Girls like Karen never gave him the time of day all through school. He was too “nice” to compete with athletes and juvenile delinquents. Meeting Karen was the brightest spot in his life. The day they were married he felt like the gods had finally smiled down on a nice guy, only to discover that she was never truly his.

Why wasn’t he enough? What was wrong with a simple life with security and a family? It turns out she wasn’t different from all of the girls who never gave him a second look. They were all simple bitches with no idea how valuable somebody like him truly was. Karen was the luckiest of the bunch. She had him. He would make sure she was taken care of for the rest of his life. He would never leave her alone. He would love her. Where would all of those worn out whores end up after these men were done passing them around?

He wasn’t going to sit back and take it this time. He was done playing second fiddle to jerks and jocks. This time, he was going to leave them face down in the mud and walk away with the girl. Ted scanned the photos again, looking for anything that might be usable. He sat there for ten minutes, staring menacingly at the computer screen before a wicked smile slowly turned the corners of his mouth up.
